Talkback - the company car drivers
Staying alert
Staying alert
Tired? Stressed? As a company car driver, you can probably appreciate more than most the effects of extended periods behind the wheel.

But did you know that over four million drivers fall asleep at the wheel every year? In fact, this is the cause of almost 20% of motorway accidents. And because of the high speeds involved and the failure to brake, accidents where the driver falls asleep are more likely to result in serious injury or death.

Staying alert
Fatigue at the wheel
Unfortunately, there are no handy tips for travelling long distances without taking a break. The best advice is to be sensible: you know your own limits. Some useful steps to follow are:
  • Plan long trips carefully so that you allow plenty of stopping-off points where you can relax and maybe have some food and drink
  • A 15-minute nap is an extremely effective way of combating tiredness
  • 2 hours continuous driving is the maximum recommended time at the wheel. Don’t drive any more than 8 to 10 hours in a single day

Stress, and the art of sitting comfortably
It may sound simple, but how you sit in your car can affect your mental and physical stress levels. Just by making sure that your seat is correctly adjusted could help you to feel more alert and drive better.

Another way to de-stress while driving is to play some vibrant music to accompany your journey. Top Gear has recently conducted a survey asking the public to vote their favourite driving song, and from this concluded the top five driving songs are: “Golden Earring” by Radar Love, Steppenwolf’s high-speed classic “Born to be wild”, “Don’t stop me now “ by the infamous Queen, “Highway Star” by Deep Purple and last but not least a true classic “Bat out of Hell” by Meatloaf.

Enjoy!
